7/24 Leads Press Release for Distribution 7/23/03
“How do you pit one tiny web site against Corporate Giants with 50 or more web sites??” Small Town Texas Entrepreneur squares off mano a mano with the Corporate Big Boys. Using Ethical Search Engine Optimization and Common Sense will win the day for the little guy.
North Texas Insurance agent
Andy Jones isn’t your typical spoiler. Seated in his office in tiny
Van Alstyne,
TX (Pop 2500), he doesn’t look like he is engaged in a
fierce battle with some of the biggest corporations in
America. Dressed in khakis, a
knit shirt and black boots, Jones quickly dispels any idea that he is not dead
serious. “Get this right”, he pointedly tells this interviewer, “I am going to
unseat the MULTI-NATIONAL Corporations -- not just the American ones. I am going
for broke and it is all going to be on the Internet for everyone to follow. The
Internet is the Great Equalizer and I am going to prove it. It is one of the
greatest resources for small business that I can imagine.”
18 months ago, Jones decided he needed a web site to generate sales leads for
his health insurance business. He continues “I was extremely naďve. I had no
idea at that time what Search Engine Optimization, html, rss feeds, search
engine results pages, spiders, or any of that stuff was. I got ripped off,
misinformed and ignored at almost every turn.” From unscrupulous web hosts to
software products that didn’t deliver as promised, Jones says the learning curve
was steep. He told me the concept is simple “Just design for the discriminating
user. Ethical Search Engine Optimization and a clean, crisp, professional
appearance will make a web site successful.”
“I just buckled down and decided to rely on my own instincts” Jones relates.
Using a Dell computer he bought off eBay because “that is where the real
bargains are”, Jones started lurking in online expert forums and looking at
literally thousands of successful web sites. With the common sense gained from
growing up on a farm and spending 20 years in the cut throat transportation
industry, he says “I have a natural sense of what will work and what won’t. I
doesn’t take long to grasp new concepts ...and I am not easily intimidated.”
Always strapped for cash, Jones is continually looking for economical products
and services. “There are plenty of absolutely free resources out there if you
just know where to look. The BEST free resource is information and advice. Free
expert forums have proved to be a valuable resource for Jones. “They were my
online University” he says.
All the late nights surfing the Internet and reading hundreds of forum messages
must have paid off. Jones now has 3 different web sites which generate a bounty
of leads for him every week. Turning the Dell laptop toward me, he shows me
multiple Google search results where his listings are interspersed with those
from the MOST recognizable names in the U.S. Insurance Industry. “Don’t use real
names of companies in your article” he warns me. “I am not about gaining
anything at someone else’s expense and publishing those company names serves no
purpose in this article.”
‘So what about the Texas Gunslinger angle?’ I ask. Jones chuckles and says “I
started a new web site at
724leads.com to provide a resource for those small business people who
wanted to do the same thing I did without all the hassle. I was getting
everything ready to go online and I thought that if I was such an ‘expert’ at
this I should make it a matter of public record how the 724 Leads website was
doing in the search engines. It is all there for anyone to see. I am also
allowing RSS syndication so everyone can keep track of it ” And that is exactly
what he has done. Right under the heading on each web page is a link that says
‘Do we know anything?’ Clicking on that link takes you directly to Jones’ blog.
The blog is a complete diary of his search engine placement records and his
almost daily tweaking and refining to move www.724leads.com into a prominent
place in the search engines. It will be interesting to see how this ‘Gunslinger’
makes out against the Big Boys. I know I will be following his progress.
